It’s hard to use its?! Quick apostrophe guidance!

I’ve always been a stickler for grammar.  However the other day I struck a brief piece of uncertainty, when I was pondering whether to say it’s, or its.

A quick Google search turned up a simple rule that said it quite clearly, so I’ve reproduced it here:

  1. If you can substitute the word with “it is” or “it has” then you want the contraction “it’s.”
    • It’s a nice day
    • It’s been a nice day.
  2. If you can replace the word with “his” or “her” and it makes sense, then you want the possessive “its.”

That really is all there is to it!
